Welcome Letter

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the ESGO Council and officers, the Scientific Committee, and the Local Organising Committee, it is our great pleasure to invite you to join the 19th Biennial Meeting of the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO 2015), to be held from October 24-27, 2015 in Nice, France.

The last few years have seen progressive changes in our approach to gynaecological cancer. Basic science has progressed, with new insights into the utility of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers, immunology and chemoprevention. Surgical approach has also been subjected to changes both towards conservative surgery in selected cases and ultraradical surgery, when indicated. New technological advances in the field have shifted the borders in all aspects of oncological care. Greater understanding of recent scientific advances has led to incorporating this data into strategies for patient management.

Every 2 years the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) Congress attracts larger number of participants from all over Europe and across the world. Following the tradition of previous meetings, the upcoming ESGO 2015 Congress will be an excellent opportunity to learn about new developments in the field of gynaecological oncology, to meet up with colleagues and to make new friends. A great deal of thought went into formulating not only a stimulating scientific programme, but also the preparation of a most enjoyable social programme, which will give participants the opportunity to experience French culture and its wonderful scenery.

Nice la Belle (Nice the Beautiful), located on the French Riviera in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and named after Nike the Roman goddess of victory. The spectacular natural beauty of the Nice and its mild Mediterranean climate attract visitors from around the world seeking rest and inspiration. The city’s secret passages lead ramblers through narrow pedestrian laneways in the romantic old town, to linger over the sights and scents of the colourful flower and produce markets. Exploring the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Cemenelum and the many pearls of this wonderful city in the French Riviera, promises a mesmerizing stay and wonderful setting for networking with colleagues!

We very much look forward to your participation in ESGO 2015 and to welcoming you to Nice.
